Book: Drive Your Plow Over The Bones of The Dead

Author: Olga Tokarczuk

BLURB

In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a crank and a recluse is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon other bodies are discovered, in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. If only anyone would pay her mind . . .

REVIEW

Drive Your Plow Over The Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk is an interesting and vibey read. The way the descriptions are written you feel like a fly on the wall watching what is unfolding. The way the story is written is like a stream of consciousness from Janina’s point of view. The humor peppered throughout the book was well placed and had me giggling. The astrology aspects were intriguing. While it makes sense for the story to not include more backstory around Oddball, I really wanted it. What was up with him and his son Black Coat? What was his past like? I appreciated all the little clues dropped throughout the book, that really only linked together at the end. Overall, I truly enjoyed Drive Your Plow Over The Bones of The Dead.
